Invest in education. Your support will change a life.
This week we are donating to an organization that I regularly support and volunteer for. You’ll understand why when you learn what Make a Difference Wisconsin does.
Their mission is to provide financial literacy programs and resources that empower teens to make sound financial decisions.
Their vision is to build strong communities where students and their families make informed financial decisions and take control of their financial future.
They empower thousands of teens at numerous schools and community groups through two financial literacy programs: Money Sense and Money Coach.
As a financial professional, it would be difficult NOT to volunteer for Make a Difference Wisconsin. Here’s a picture of me teaching Money Sense at Pius XI High School in Milwaukee.
Make a Difference Wisconsin brings together businesses, professionals and educators to try to meet the challenge of providing a solid financial education to every Wisconsin teenager. In doing so, these same teenagers are bringing their new financial education home to their families who may not have had ANY financial education to this point. What an empowering thing for these teens to be able to help their mothers, fathers and siblings in this way.
Make a Difference Wisconsin founder’s story:
In March 2006, a posthumous Letter to the Editor was published from Marty Stein, lifelong resident of Milwaukee known for his magnanimous nature. In his letter, he shared his concerns about the state of society and expressed his belief that education was the answer. He implored readers to get involved in a child’s life, to “help them to see the opportunities, enable them to be all they can be.” These words touched Marty’s friend, Lloyd Levin, who contemplated how he, a financial professional, could heed his friend’s call to action.
Later that year, Lloyd started Make A Difference – Wisconsin with the aim of bringing education on money and personal finances to all teenagers in Wisconsin before graduation. Visit this page dedicated to stories, stats and Lloyd’s reflections on the impact of a decade in financial education.
