Time for Camp. Awesome! AweSum? Camp AweSum!!!
Camp AweSum has is a residential summer camp for children with a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum. In fact they have two separate types of camps, one for kids and the other for families with children on the spectrum.
The Youth Camp enables campers (with higher functioning autism) to feel pride in learning new skills while being away from home. They develop lifelong friendships, experience a summer camp without stress and anxiety and are supported in all they attempt to do. Self-esteem will soar and friendships will burgeon at Camp AweSum!
A Day in the Life: Raising a Child with Autism is a great article we came across that offers an intimate look into day-to-day life raising a child with autism. This article reinforced to us the need for programs like Camp AweSum to help kids and families with autism.
Camp AweSum’s Family Camp is an opportunity to vacation with other families who “understand your story.” The age and functioning level of the person on the Autism Spectrum is irrelevant for this camp. Camp AweSum has recognized the need to offer respite care for the whole family. They provide an extraordinary opportunity for families to relax and rejuvenate in an idyllic Northwoods setting while enjoying the understanding and support provided by other families and by an organization and staff that embrace differences. There are plenty of opportunities to share tales and laugh about things only families such as yours could know and appreciate!
This week, we are giving $100 to Camp AweSum. We hope you will consider donating, as well.
