Empowering Seniors to Stay in Their Homes
Sometimes you come across the story of one person who set out to make a difference – proof positive that we all have the power to make things better for others.
Al Emmons of Greendale, WI is just such a gentleman. He founded Love Thy Neighbor Foundation in 2016.
Al had recently lost his wife of 56 years. He wants to “give back” or “pay forward” as he feels blessed in his life. He has a passion for this goal of keeping seniors independent and in their homes longer. Love Thy Neighbor Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit corporation, 501(c) (3) serving Southeast Wisconsin whose purpose is to address, educate, coordinate and provide options for seniors that want to stay home as part of their fulfillment program as they age.
The goal of Love Thy Neighbor Foundation is to “Empower Seniors” by forming community partnerships and relationships with both profit and not for profit organizations that can assist in the goals of the seniors and families that come to them for assistance.
Knowledge is Power… 90% of seniors want to stay in their own home as they age – referred to as “aging in place.” According to AARP this number will continue to increase. Between 2014 and 2030, the U.S. population of adults aged 65+ will nearly double from 37 million to 71.5 million people.
The Love Thy Neighbor website is a collection of services to help you find the assistance you need to stay in your home and remain independent.
The foundation has brought together tons of information to show that, yes, it is possible to remain in your home as you age. If you were thinking it wouldn’t be possible for you (or a loved one) to stay in your (their) home, you simply must head over to LoveThyNeighborFoundation.org to read about all the services that are available to you. You might be surprised. We were.
The foundation also offers free workshops to educate seniors and their families about all of the options available to them for help when they need it. Upcoming workshops include:
- Home Repairs | Home Modification
- Legal Documents
- Yardwork, Home Repairs & Snow Removal
Previously held workshops included:
- Transportation | Need a Ride?
- Good Food, Good Company
- Help is Just a Phone Call Away
This week we are donating $100 to help Al Emmons with his Love Thy Neighbor Foundation.
